How it all began!?!?!

Well, there is some big news happening in my life…no, I’m not pregnant, but I have decided to have a baby. I am going to adopt a baby girl from China. How did this begin? It all started on December 2, 2004 when I happened to catch an interesting episode of the Oprah show. The show was about children that have changed the world. Part of this particular episode focused on China and all of the baby girls that had been abandoned because of the one child policy and the need for families to have baby boys. It showed pictures of many, many babies in cribs and only a few nannies to care for all of them. I was so moved by this show that I got on the Oprah website to see if I could find other links to learn more about these babies. One thing lead to another and the information that I ended up walking away with was 1) there are many baby girls waiting to be adopted and 2) single people can adopt from China on a limited basis. Couples can adopt freely without getting on any sort of waiting list. China has said that only 8 percent of adoptions from each agency can be from single people. So, for every 12 couples that adopt, one single can adopt. There are far more single people that want to adopt than the 8 percent quota so there are waiting lists for singles. This new knowledge has been running through my head ever since. It is now the middle of January and all I can do is think about how I am going to make this happen. I have contacted many agencies and put my name on 3 waiting lists. Now I am left to decide when to start the process. A big part of me wants to start the minute a singles slot opens up and the other part of me, the logical part, wants to wait another year and a half or so before beginning the year-long process.
