My job

As part of my job I have to assess my student's abilities and knowledge in different areas. One of the areas that visually impaired children need assessing is their awareness of the location of their various body parts. So, I was assessing a little girl in 1st grade today. I went down the list asking, "Point to your nose, your arms, your feet, etc." I then asked her to point to her trunk. She sat and thought for a minute, then looked at me, looked behind herself and pointed to her rear end then looked at me for approval. I kind of smiled (trying to hold in my laughter). She could sense that this was possibly not the body part I was referring to. She then looked at me with a confused look on her face and said, "...wait, I don't have a trunk." I had a little giggle and then we talked about where the trunk of a body is. Thank goodness I get to work with kids everyday!

That girl is very smart to guess her rear is her trunk! It makes sense since the "trunk" of a car is in the back. Wow! Smart little cookie!
