Bathroom Renovation

When I moved into my house I painted the bathroom white, put in a new vanity and tiolet. I painted on top of old high gloss paint which caused the new paint to not stick and now it is peeling off. This bathroom has been a thorn in my side for the past three years. I've started prepping the walls and ceiling so I can prime and paint. Hopefully priming the walls will fix the problem. I will eventually change the retro green tile, but for now I'm going with the retro look so I don't have to fork out a bunch of cash for this project. So, on my to do list is finish prepping walls, prime, paint, (possibly) put up wainscoting, recaulk tub and trim, change light fixture, change door knob. This is only one of my projects planned for the summer. I had better get busy. I still need to paint the shed, baby proof the house, paint the kitchen ceiling and change the kitchen light fixture. I'll post before and after pics. Here are my bathroom "before" pics.

Ceiling- peeling paint and old light fixture.

Hopefully there will be wainscoting on this wall, if not there will be new paint!

More wainscoting behind the toilet (hopefully).

This is the real problem area. Since the window sill gets wet the paint is really peeling.

The End...for now

So glad to find another do-it-yourself gal! Ours skills will probably be so honed during the wait perhaps we'd be good enough to do our OWN HGTV series.

Hmmm...'DTC designers', 'Adoption-Wait Architects', 'Two Women, the CCAA & a Hammer' (mwah!)

I'm gonna remember this project when I have to overhaul part of my house! I'll have to call Tiff, the expert, for help! You will look back at these before shots and be amazed at the difference when you're all done! Good luck!

I didn't attempt any wainscoting, but last summer I did re-grout my shower stall & fixed/re-painted my walls (sometimes I still miss the pink & purple paisley wallpaper I tore down - hehe).

I had an eerily similar situation goin on with the window in my shower. My roommate was using the ledge as a shelf - and it simply could not tolerate all the water. I repaired it, then got one of those expanding curtain rods and hung up a water resistant curtain to protect that area. It stays dry now. I installed a shower caddy for the roommate's 'stuff' & he was happy. It's been a whole year now - so far the window is still looking good!

Good luck!

I can't wait to see the results! I have just about renovated my whole house in about 6 years and I did wainscoting in one of the baths and love it! Good luck!

I feel for you, I had to gut my bathroom too. My wall tile was from the 50's and took off the drywall when I chipped off. If had it to do over, I would use liquid nails to stick wainscoting to it.

BTW, I think your house is adorable!
