I have a toddler

Eliza has definitely entered the toddler stage. She is teething (surprise, surprise)...the last of her one-year molars and upper canines. Teething tends to go hand in hand with Eliza's frustration levels. She also has an extreme obsession with the phone. She even made up her own sign for phone by emphatically slapping the palm of her hand to her ear when she sees a phone. When my sweet angel is denied the opportunity to talk on the phone (or use the remote) she deems it necessary to hit the person telling her no. Well, in this house hitting is not allowed, so Eliza had her first (two) time out sessions tonight. She was marched into the kitchen and placed on a little stool as the timer was set for one minute. Let's just say she wasn't impressed. I'm hoping that it will click that hitting = time out. We'll see.

Uh oh, already enamored of the phone. Watch out, mom.

Hope she figures out the time-out concept quickly.

Maisie has a phone and remote fetish too, what is it with these girls! Hope that the time outs work, remember it can take up to 20 times for the concept to sink into those cute little heads!

Eliza seems so bright, my assumption is that she'll have it figured out in no time!!

You'll never regret being strict when it comes to discipline at home - it REALLY pays off in the long run!

That is the universal sign for phone apparently and anything can be a phone too. At least it was so with Glenys and still is.

I'm sure she has no clue what time out is all about! But you're right...you have to nip that hitting mommy thing in the bud.

That's pretty dang funny. I am sure your not laughing, but for us, it puts things in our lives into perspective! Its hard to stay mad when they are so cute.

our son went through a "hitting when frustrated" phase. i was at the end of my rope - nothing seemed to work: time outs, stern talking to's, NOTHING.
and, suddenly, it clicked for him.
not to stress you out, but it took him about 6 weeks to "get it". very frustrating time for everyone in our family - but, looking back, so worth the disciplining effort.
good luck to you and cutie eliza!

Yes, hitting = timeout in our house as well. So now, Ms. Syd likes to pretend she is going to hit you and then laugh. Welcome to toddlerhood!

Oh, isn't it fun! What, we don't get pictures of the time out?

No way... cute little Eliza hitting?!!! Its a pity all kids are always adorable and mild mannered!!! At least she is trying to express herself - that's good news!

The time out years. Not the terrible two's or threes. She'll get it, don't worry!
