...you start packing for a trip 4 days before you leave. I am a huge procrastinator. In my pre-mom life you would have seen me packing for an upcoming trip the night before at midnight. Traveling takes a little more prep these days.
I feel slightly nervous about the plane ride. Eliza has energy and spunk, that is for sure, and sitting quietly for 9 hours isn't anywhere on her agenda at this point in her life. I'm sure there will be moments that I will wonder why I am torturing myself, but I know in the end it will have been worth it. It's all about the memories (and the beach), right?
Any great tried and true travel tips for a 16 month old? I have a magna doodle, some play dough, books, a couple of toys, a million snacks...am I missing anything to make life easier on the plane? One thing I learned from my last trip...NO CANDY!!!! Oh my. I brought dum dums as a back up secret weapon and ended up needing them (or so I thought). BIG MISTAKE. You would think that you could stick a lollipop in a child's mouth and silence would follow. Not so. Dum dums = a sticky child that won't sit still, thus making mommy and the entire seat area sticky.
I'd better go continue packing...

No (good) advice here. The one thing I will say is that for every "good" plan we've tried, there have been un-expected (bad) results. Like your dum dums. There's theory, and there's "ooops".
Oh wow...really? I never much considered that my last-minute Louie days of packing would end. Now THAT will be one difficult change for me. Ah well, certainly all worth it.
As a friend of mine said, 'They call 'em dum-dums for a reason.' Thanks ;0) So very helpful.
I think I took that same exact flight last summer! Mali was on my lap for 10 hours - PACKED flight.
Sounds like you've got a pretty complete 'bag of tricks' ready. I always make sure we have Mali's blanket & stuffed sheep b/c they encourage her to sleep.
Have a great time!! I'm sure it will be worth the flight.
Have a wonderful trip- my only advice is that she has something to suck to counter the ear pain...? Not sure what for a 16 month old! Maybe you already had that figured out though...:O)
Plane trip ideas: anything she can open and close (and open and close and open...) like the little pill boxes. You can put stickers or goodies in there - and then she can put the stickers on the back of the seat and peel them off, put the stickers... Get the drift?
We also invested on a portable DVD (we got ours for less than $80!). We watched Baby Einstein videos for 3 hours straight. I'm sure the folks next to us were LOVING the squeals.
Happy travels!!!!
Have a great trip and I'll talk to you when you get back...all tanned and gorgeous!!
