I Broke all the Rules...

I finally got a fake Christmas tree. I've been adamantly against it, but for the last 3 years my tree has been dead after the first week of having it up. I hit the sales at Target yesterday and picked up a fakey. I hope I don't hate it, but I figure it can't be worse than what I just took out of my house! We'll have to wait and see.

I haven't had a "real" tree in so long, that I've forgotten what they're like. I think you'll like your fake tree...

(Although I've been thinking I'll try a real tree next year. Ha, ha, ha!)

I was exactly the same way about fake trees. Then my husband bought one the year we went to China (we got home Dec. 22nd) and I keep using it because it's so nice to just set it up and plug it in and have all the lights on. I HATE stringing lights on a tree!!

I am just so paranoid about my house burning down that I got a fake one. I don't regret it!

We used to get a real tree every year and then the price and pain of it all made us break down and get a fake one...I'll never go back!

i never knew there was a rule... but i've been real for years (my mom always did fake)... now i have to wait for kitty to go to heaven because he pees on the real one. i didn't get a tree this year.

I got a fake one this year for the same reason. Our wood burner dries it out and I wind up hurling the tree angrily out the door the day after Christmas. My adult children however, are furious.

I got a fake one years ago and, even worse, it's tiny. But I don't even care -- I'm the only one who puts it up and takes it down, and I just don't have the patience to deal with a big, sappy, prickly, unlighted tree. If I ever crave that piney smell, I just decorate the mantel and other spots with real garland. Way easier... Yeah I'm lazy. :-)

I went for the Charlie Brown look. Had real for a long time and stumbled upon the cutest, scraggliest tree around. I love it. It is unique and shows off all the ornaments. And, like said before, no annual stringing of the lights!

I can't believe you've gone fake!

May I ask the obvious: Do you cut the trunk end off before putting it in the stand and do you water it every day? Do you check for freshness in the lot? My Noble Firs last over a month when I do these things. In fact, I feel bad for throwing out a still fresh tree at the end of January!

That said, I admit, this year I got a fakey, a real fake fakey, too. I got a box at Walm.rt that contained something called Two Montana Topiary Trees with Lights. Basically, it's a tall skinny tree in an urn. Picture the trees on either side of a fancy doorway of a hotel. Mine are 4' tall. I put up one in the livingroom and one in the playroom. The kids made ornaments and decorated their tree and I decorated mine. I figured that with a kitten, and the freezing cold weather, rain and having no heater in my car, I couldn't stomp around looking for a real tree this year. Ane, if I ever buy my own home, I'll have two nice little trees to put on either side of the doorway!

The picture of your fakey tree makes it look VERY nice. I imagine that if you do a different color scheme and ornaments every few years, it will not look like the same tree year after year like the one I grew up with did.

I ADORE our artificial, pre-lit tree. Makes things ever so much easier. Light a candle for the smell...

I love our artificial trees. We have 5...yes I am a tree fanatic. They are so easy to care for and to store! I think you will like it.

I've only had fakey trees due to my brother's allergies as a kid and then my laziness as an adult. There's a lot to be said for the ease of bending branches to fill in holes and easily hold decorations.

Hope you enjoy it when you decorate it next year!

Happy New Year friend!

Love my fake tree with all of it's non-piney smell. However, to get that wonderful smell, I use Crabtree and Evelyn's Noel potpourri. Wonderful stuff.

Two years ago, we took a few hours and carefully arranged the lights on our fake tree so that we don't have to re-light it every year. Way easier and takes a lot of the stress out of the holidays so we can enjoy each other more.
