Domestic Adoption...

I've had a few people e-mail me re: domestic adoption. I just wanted to do a quick post about this. You can't imagine what a dream this adoption was. From the beginning to the end this adoption was the most peaceful, enjoyable, smooth experience. I think there are a lot of misconceptions with domestic adoption. I don't know that I even realized it was an option for me before I stumbled upon a couple of blogs of single woman who adopted. On top of that, my adoption fees really helped Solomon's birth mother and ensured that my baby boy was well-cared for prenatally. His birth mother's basic needs were provided for, she received counseling services, weekly activities, weekly group meetings, someone to accompany her to all of her doctor's appointments and to top it off they provided a personal tutor for her so she could earn her G.E.D. Solomon's birth mother personally told me that she was going home a better person beacause of Heart to Heart. Her dream is to go home and start a nursing program. Her future is truly bright! I hope, more than anything, that she will follow through with her dreams. My agency called me today to tell me that the birth mother had passed the G.E.D. test yesterday and they also asked if I knew anyone that would be interested in adopting, so I thought of, well, all of you! They have an African American baby boy due to be born in February and they desperately need families to present to the birth mother. I have LOVED working with this agency. They have been SO single friendly and just plain old nice to work with. Please give them a call if you are even remotely interested. Call Cindi at 801-792-7782 and tell her Tiffany referred you! Just think, you could be holding your sweet newborn in just a few weeks!

Tiffany, thanks for sharing this information! Where is Heart to Heart Adoptions located? Do you know if they work with adoptive families in other states? I'm getting so fed up with my long China adoption wait, that I contacted numerous agencies in my home state (Iowa) recently, but none of them were accepting singles.

Congrats again!

Yes! They work with out of state families. This particular baby is here in UT, so you would have to come here...UT adoption laws are EXCELLENT and this is a really good situation! Call them!

I'm so glad it was such a smooth experience. He is absolutely adorable. It's great to hear about any agency that is open to singles! I definitely plan to adopt again at some point, probably when Elizabeth is closer to 3 or 4. In the meantime, I'll be watching you for tips on how to juggle 2!
Congrats!

I'm just welling up with tears. I'm so glad your experience with the agency was great (whew!) and I love hearing the additional information about what they do for the birthmoms. Working with them but in a different state for placement meant I didn't get some of that info and experience - if I were to manage to do it again I'd really want a Utah situation so I could meet everyone. LOVING the new pics of Solomon and Eliza too!

Tiffany I am SO happy for you. I hope this doesn't sound weird because you don't know me but I've been reading for so long and I love your blog! I really am just thrilled for you, Eliza and Solomon. It's also really great of you to post this. If it were up to me, I would be on the phone this second calling, but my husband is still in the thinking stage for a 3rd kid :)
I'm also do happy that you got to meet with and talk to the birthmother. That is the one thing I wish I could change about my sons' adoptions from Russia.
Congrats again and that's for the agency info!

When you first posted about this a few months ago it was the first time I ever heard of singles being able to adopt domestically, I had heard that birthmoms never pick single moms because there are so many couples to choose from. Thank you so much for sharing what you've learned and lived with all of us.

Sounds like from the questions - you need to do a more extensive post about how domestic adoption works(in your spare time:) Just kidding). Heart to Heart can work with families in any state and if the child is born in Utah- parents sign over their rights in 24 hours. This is different in other states but Heart to Heart does work with birth mothers and adoptive families in other states. I would guess at least half of their families are out of state (but I am just guessing). H2H likes to bring them to UT because of the great adoption laws. I too think Heart to Heart is an amazing agency and they are very single friendly.....this is not true of many/most agencies.
