I'm a Broken Record
We had at least 4,059 discussions about chocolate and television today. The girl has loved the tube since day one! She would sit and stare at the T.V. in the hotel in Hohhot at 8 months old. If Eliza had things her way, she would sit in front of the T.V. from morning until night with an occasional chocolate fix. I had become a bit lax about T.V. time and recently decided there needed to be greater restriction. Don't get me wrong, we watch T.V. around here, I just hate for it to be on too much. I've decided she can watch it in the morning while we get ready for the day and then a half hour after school and a half hour before bed. I think I'm being generous. Eliza would disagree. We had the T.V. on for 30 min. when she woke up and then again for a few minutes while I fixed her hair and got her ready for church and then turned it off for the rest of the day with the promise that she could watch a show later in the evening. Every time I turned around she was asking for the T.V. and if she wasn't asking for that, she was asking for chocolate. I felt like a broken record all day long. I just kept repeating the same thing, "We'll watch a show later on tonight and you can have some chocolate after dinner". I'm proud to say we made it through the day and she did, in fact, get to watch television and eat chocolate. Life is good.

TV and chocolate, me and my girl would love to live at your house!! Maisie is cute, she'll whisper and sign "chocolate" to Eammon as she knows he'll give it to her but if I know about it I will say no. Two smart girls loving chocolate!!
LOL...I could eat chocolate from sun up until sun down with some snippets of TV thrown in. I can relate.
Just to prevent soaring chocolate demand, I hope my kiddo hates the stuff. ;0)
I know how you feel. Sometimes I thinkI should just record myself and leave it playing all day. "Make your bed." "TIme for homework" "Get off the computer". Hang in there mom. At least she is a doll!
Well, I'm right there with you in regards to tv. The first thing out of Chloe's mouth most days is "Watch TVV?" (And there are two V's in TVV--that's the way she says it.) She won't eat chocolate though. Fine by me...more for mom!
Mali is the same way about TV! Not about chocolate, though cuz I can't keep any of that in the house (for MY own sake). I limit TV time as well.
Mali's a little older now, but tends to do the same thing. To keep myself from repeating the same statement all day, I ask her to answer the question ("What did Mommy already tell you about TV, chocolate, etc?"). & she knows the answer. I think sometimes she just needs to hear it said, so I make her say it.
On a postive note, Mali's ability to sit in front of the TV is a blessing sometimes. I refer to the state she enters while watching as a 'cartoon coma'. As single Moms, we need all the help we can get sometimes. When I'm sick or just have something I really need to get done, I'm so thankful for the TV =)
Good job mommy! You know what a whimp I am with caving in.... I must take this as another good example to follow!!
comsistenty is what a little one needs to be able to understand how to get along in the world..That's what allows them to know about limits... but tv and chocolate, that's what I live on as an adult... my grandson always asks you have m&m's gramma? and I generally do..Good thing I only see him once a week!!!! Linda
I'm there w/ you. Kai has just discovered Chocolate and I don't know how I feel about it. He normally asks for Broccoli or a banana. I feel more comfortable with those request. We are doing really good. We are expecting another baby in September. We are excited and scared all at once. I need to stop by it's been way too long. Eliza is getting so big! What happended to our babies???
Eliza is VERY persistent! That is a GOOD character trait. Her love of chocolate shows very good taste as well:)
We have the same issue here....computer and tv! Just turned 2 and also is addicted....trying to wean her off slowly without tremendous meltdowns. Tough parenting sometimes.
TV is such a huge issue. I stressed about it for years, and felt so guilty for letting them watch more than 30 minutes per day....and now that they're older, you'll often find me saying "just calm down, lets stop the fighting and watch a MOVIE. Turn on the TV!!!". Life gets busier for these kids and it gets harder to fit in the TV time :-)
Good rules, but dont stress too much. You are doing great!!!
And don't ya love the incessant question asking???? Ugh. We should invent a "mommy repeat machine" where we can just push a button and play it over and over and over.
Being a broken record is good. Just be consistent and she'll be fine. And, of course...chocolate always helps!
Bailey :o)
I love good tv and chocolate too, so I feel for your girl!
I think when nice weather rolls around and everyone's not so housebound, the tv doesn't take on such a central role in our lives! Chocolate, on the other hand, never takes a vacation!
Sounds just like our house! The first thing out of Isabella's mouth is "can I have a piece of candy" and she is glued to the tv. Can't wait until the weather warms up and she won't be glued to the tv. Funny thing is, she never had candy or sweets until she was 2.5 yrs old, and now she can't stop! I really wish I never started her on it sometimes, but I really felt bad at parties and stuff and all the other kids were getting it. I started limiting sweets to only one per day. Hopefully, I can ween it more later.
Too funny! I actually wish Anna would watch some T.V. more! She did go to see Enchanted with us and sat throught he whole thing (with lots of popcorn and candy to keep her busy). I am with Eliza, I could eat chocolate for breakfast lunch and dinner. I f only it was calorie free!
Hi
Thanks for your comment on my blog... I like Ella's new Do too.
Love Eliza's Tutu!
Joan.
It's an important battle....keep fighting the good fight (or being a broken record). I worry about the too much TV too and she's not even here yet - yikes! L.
I've always kept the TV on for background noise but I've noticed Natalie really likes commercials. We have a Gatlinburg one with a guy in a bear suit that excites her so much she'll scream and clap her hand lol
